Capoeira Batuque: Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art form which combines different aspects of martial art, dance, music, capoeira and acrobatics. Capoeira Batuque is the longest standing academy in Southern California and the heartbeat of Brasil Brasil Cultural Center. This art form, which was developed by the slaves as they were learning to fight and protect themselves, was disguised as a dance accompanied to music since it was illegal to practice any kind of Martial Art.

Samba: Samba is a Brazilian dance and musical genre with it’s roots in Africa & Brazil. It is recognized in the world as a symbol of Brazil and the Brazilian Carnival. Considered one of the most popular Brazilian cultural expression, Samba has become an icon of Brazilian national identity.

Afro Dance JAM: This class combines dance styles of the Afro diaspora into a full-body, mind, spirit workout experience. We explore foundational Afro based dance movements in a high energy, continuous groove. The class emphasizes repetition, NOT choreography, so we’ll continue to flow from one movement to the next with breaks in between.

Afro-Brazilian Dance: The traditional Afro-Brazilian dances of the Orixas (Deities) are transmitted and studied through dance and rhythm.  With a strong emphasis on movement, this workshop align the body, mind and soul, as the dance surfaces from the inner emotions.  While slave owners banned African rituals, slaves found ways to disguise their true beliefs, using dance and music to escape and free themselves from hard times.

Afro DanceHall: This class taught by Ashley in a blend of many different dances from the Caribbean and Brazil and parts of Africa.

Drumming: In this powerful drumming workshop, you will gain knowledge of a broad range of rhythms from traditional and contemporary Afro-Brazilian sounds. Using the wide variety of percussion instruments, this workshop focus on the mesmerizing Candomble rhythms, the smooth Samba Reggae pulse and the energetic Samba de Roda.  Let your spirits be lifted by these powerful Afro-Brazilian beats!
